New Handheld Inspection Camera Travels Easily to Remote Areas, Wirelessly Capturing up to 32 GB of Video and Still Images.

Just five pounds and less than a foot across, the new Sidewinder push camera travels with ease up ladders and across catwalks to inspect process piping, heat exchanger tubes, exhaust stacks and other confined spaces. Its camera extends 100' into openings as narrow as 7/8" diameter, using bright LEDs and a high-sensitivity imager to capture vivid inspection footage. That footage is displayed on a detachable wireless LCD monitor capable of recording 32 GB of video and still images.

"Sidewinder is all about firsts," says Chris Lynch, President of Peerless Creations. "It's the first push camera to offer this degree of portability, sparing technicians the risk of lugging bulky, heavy equipment to precarious locations. It's also the first push camera to offer wireless viewing and recording for easy operation in cramped quarters. And of course, it's the first push camera truly designed for handheld operation, which really enhances control and productivity."

Submersible to 100', the camera itself is made of stainless steel and has a scratch-resistant sapphire window. Its adjustable-focus 70-degree lens swaps easily with 40, 55 and 90 degree options, and can be outfitted with an available right-angle mirror adapter for side-viewing.

An array of high-intensity LED lamps assures shadowless illumination.
Optional centering devices attach quickly for centered viewing in 1.35 and 1.5" pipes.

The push rod is composed of electrical conductors within a fiberglass core, all sheathed in a rugged PVC jacket. It measures 3/16" diameter, and all 100' of it coil neatly into the 11.5" reel. "The long push rod and slim camera make Sidewinder especially suited for heat exchanger tube inspection, where expensive video probes are commonly used, even though they lack the length to perform a single-pass inspection," says Lynch.

A single thumbwheel on the body of the device toggles system power and controls illumination intensity. The 3.6" color TFT LCD monitor pivots on the Sidewinder, or simply detaches for wireless viewing from the palm of your hand (or attached to your work piece via a magnetic swivel mount). The monitor's wireless range exceeds 30', and multiple monitors tuned to the same frequency can allow several people to view the same real-time inspection video simultaneously.

With an integral MicroSD card bay, the monitor captures up to 32 GB of video and still images. The card itself can be used to transfer footage to a computer or smart phone, or the monitor connects directly to a PC by USB cable. Alternately, it can output analog video via phono jack in selectable NTSC or PAL format. The monitor presents and captures AVI video at 640 x 480 pixels and 30 fps (captured JPEG stills have the same resolution).

The system runs off batteries or mains power. The monitor interface offers 10 language options.
