New SICK Safety Controllers Augment Company's Broad Interfaces Portfolio

Minneapolis, Minn., - September 12, 2007. SICK, one of the world's leading manufacturers of sensors, safety systems and automatic identification products for factory and logistics automation, today announced the launch of its UE4457 and UE4427 remote Safety Controller product line as part of its comprehensive safety interface product portfolio. SICK's family of safety interfaces now includes safety relays, stand-alone safety controllers, and safety fieldbus solutions for DeviceNet Safety, PROFIsafe and AS-i Safety at Work.

SICK is uniquely positioned to provide solutions for the broadest offering of safety interface technologies available. Since SICK maintains a network and technology neutral position, and also has the ability to provide the right solution that satisfies customers' application requirements, regardless of which technology they utilize.

These new remote controllers provide unique solutions for safety-relevant applications that normally are solved utilizing more traditional safety controls solutions that require both standard programmable logic controllers and safety-rated programmable logic controllers. The IP 67 enclosure rating of the UE4457 and UE4427 remote controllers provides the ability for on-machine mounting using quick-disconnect technology rather than consuming valuable panel space.

The controllers are remote I/O devices that also incorporate safety-rated controller functionality. Units feature six (6) dual channel safety capable inputs that may also function as single channel inputs, twelve (12) test/signal outputs and two (2) bipolar safety-capable outputs. The UE4457 variant also supports two (2) safety data link (SDL) connections that can be used in conjunction with intelligent SICK safety products such as the C4000, S300 Advanced, S3000 and M4000 Advanced to provide additional functionality (e.g. switching field sets or user modes).

Configuration of the UE4457 and UE4427 remote controllers is accomplished using function block programming via SICK's Configuration and Diagnostic Software (CDS) or via SICK EasySCT Software.
