Regulated Charge Pump has adjustable voltage output.

Press Release Summary:

Manufactured in lead-free SO-8 package, NIS6201 provides regulated output voltage that can be referenced or added to any bus voltage, allowing unit to float bias or supply voltage on top of any bus voltage. It supplies 20 mA and 8-15 V and contains internal linear regulator and charge pump. High-voltage components are external to pump and can be sized accordingly, allowing thermally protected product can handle any isolation voltage up to hundreds of volts.

ON Semiconductor Introduces Industry's First Floating, Regulated Charge Pump to Replace Isolated Power Supplies

The new NIS6201 provides a regulated output voltage - allowing it to 'float' this bias or supply voltage on top of any bus voltage making it applicable to a wide range of applications

Phoenix, Arizona October 31, 2005 - A global supplier of advanced power management solutions, ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN) today introduced the NIS6201 - the industry's only floating regulated charge pump for low power applications. Designed to supply 20 milliamp (mA) and 8 volt (V) to 15 V, the NIS6201 is an extremely cost-effective replacement for a small, isolated, switching power supply. Ideal applications for the device include the drive voltage for ORing Diodes, floating supervisory circuits and LED drivers.

Whereas most charge pumps typically have their output voltage referenced to ground, the NIS6201 output voltage can be referenced (or added to) any bus voltage. This allows it to 'float' a bias or supply voltage on top of any bus voltage. This device enables designers to easily generate any bias voltage with minimal external components.

The NIS6201 contains an internal linear regulator and a versatile charge pump that allow bias voltage supplies to be transferred from a ground referenced source to a higher potential. Because the high voltage components are external to the pump and can be sized accordingly, the NIS6201 can handle any isolation voltage required - up to hundreds of volts. The device also features an adjustable voltage output and is thermally protected. Using the NIS6201, designers can easily create a bias voltage with few external components and no inductor - thus saving size, weight and cost.

"The NIS6201 is a big step forward in designing economical 'housekeeping' supplies - or the auxiliary supplies needed to provide power to the main PWM control IC or to power ICs for functions that aren't always on," said Sue Nee, marketing manager of Application Specific Integrated Products at ON Semiconductor. "If an additional output voltage is required late in a design cycle, the NIS6201 can be a quick and easy solution."
