REGO-FIX Now Features Real-Time Cutting Tool Monitoring on Their powRgro (PG) System Toolholders

Press Release Summary:

REGO-FIX’s powRgro (PG) system toolholders, used by pro-micron GmbH & Co. KG for its spike monitoring system, now feature real-time cutting tool monitoring capabilities. GmbH & Co. KG identifies the REGO-FIX PG clamping system as the repeatable product tested for use with a spike. When mounted on powRgrip toolholders, spike uses built-in real-time accelerators and strain gauges to analyze vibration, cutter wear, torque and bending movements. A battery-operated spark unit sends data wirelessly to a machine’s CNC. The machine CNC can make quick adjustments to cutting speeds and feeds. With the PG systems, there is no generated heat or damaging forces, like in hydraulic holders that use oil. REGO-FIX and pro-micron can combine their companies’ products with a receiver for wireless data reception.

REGO-FIX Featured Real-Time Tool Monitoring on powRgrip® Tool Holders at IMTS

WHITESTOWN, Ind., September 10, 2018 – At IMTS 2018, REGO-FIX unveiled realtime cutting tool monitoring capability on its powRgrip (PG) system toolholders used by pro-micron GmbH & Co. KG for its spikeÒ monitoring system. That company has identified the REGO-FIX PG clamping system as the most repeatable product tested for use with spike, which extends the Industry 4.0 concept to in-the-cut tool performance and wear data.

Mounted on powRgrip toolholders, spike incorporates built-in real-time accelerators and strain gauges for analysis of vibration, cutter wear, torque and bending moments. In operation, a battery-operated spark unit sends spike data wirelessly to a receiver and on to a machine’s CNC. Using the information spike retrieves, the machine CNC automatically makes on-the-fly adjustments to cutting speeds and feeds, taking into consideration the cutting tool path as well.

pro-micron relies on PG holders because the system offers better performance with spike than do other holder technologies. With PG, there is no generated heat and/or other damaging forces. Hydraulic holders use oil, which heats up in use and changes cutting dynamics; the use of heat with heat-shrink holders damages the pro-micron system; and welded holders introduce too much runout.

pro-micron modifies REGO-FIX PG holders to incorporate sensors and datatransmission hardware, then offers the combination of the two companies' products with a receiver for wireless data reception.
