New Copeland Scroll® K5 Compressor Helps Reduce Refrigeration-Related Energy Consumption up to 10 Percent

Supermarkets Chains Can Reap Millions of Dollars in Annual Cost Savings

SIDNEY, Ohio - Emerson Climate Technologies, Inc., a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), introduced a new refrigeration compressor at the 2012 AHR Expo in Chicago that has the potential to help a supermarket or grocery store reduce its refrigeration-related energy expenses by up to 10 percent.

Powered by the Copeland Scroll® K5 refrigeration compressor, the new system incorporates two important features that deliver significant system efficiency advantages. The first is variable volume ratio technology, which optimizes low-condensing performance. The second is enhanced vapor injection capability for maximum capacity at low set points without having to add more or larger compressors.

"Considering the fact that a typical 50,000 sq. ft. supermarket incurs approximately $20,000 each month in refrigeration-related energy expenses, the annual cost savings per store can reach $20,000 - $24,000," said Mitch Knapke, market manager, food retail "Large, national grocery chains can realize millions of dollars in refrigeration-related energy savings each year."

The new Copeland Scroll® K5 Refrigeration Compressor is designed for large refrigeration needs (7.5 to 15 hp) and for use with low to medium temperature applications, in both stand-alone and parallel systems.

Every Copeland Scroll® K5 Refrigeration Compressor comes equipped with CoreSense(TM) technology, which means contractors can easily diagnose compressor issues, either on-site or remotely, reducing system downtime and unnecessary callbacks.
