Refrigeration-compressed Air Dryer Prevents Condensation, Corrosion

Donaldson Australasia has released a range of refrigeration-compressed air dryers suitable to any industrial area where compressed air is used to run the plant.

The Buran range is ideal for various industries including general manufacturing and processing, food sector, pharmaceutical and hospital.

By refrigerating compressed air, Buran dries the air to prevent condensation and corrosion damage. To prevent production downtime, is compressed air must be clean, dry and all oil-free.

The dryers in a robust metal housing are equipped with electronic-level-controlled condensate drain and a dew point indicator.

An aluminium heat exchanger includes three functions in one: air to air heat exchanger, refrigerants to air heat exchanger, and water separator.

Compressed air is fed into the dryer and is pre-cooled in the air to air heat exchanger where it is further cooled down to the required pressured dewpoint.

Moisture in the compressed air condenses out and gathers and discharges automatically.

Finally, the cold discharged air is reheated by the incoming compressed air. This saves energy and prevents any moisture forming beyond the dryer in the compressed their system.

The cooling capacity of the refrigeration cycle is controlled by a hot gas bypass, which will assure secure functioning even during partial loading.

Because compressed air is generated by raising the pressure of large volumes of ambient air, it usually contains harmful substances such as dirt particles and moisture in the form of water vapour.

The water vapour condenses and can lead to operational breakdowns and considerable costs.

Due to Buran's new heat exchanger concept, pressure losses are reduced to a minimum and the operating costs are kept low throughout the whole lifetime. The average pressure loss is 22% lower than with traditional dryer ranges.

The unit has a user-friendly control panel for the monitoring of operating status at a glance. Demanding low maintenance, it is also easier to handle -- all connections are accessible from one side (compressed air inlet and outlet, electrical connection, condensate drain and inspection drain control).
