Reflectometer tests LAN fiber networks.

Press Release Summary:

Dual wavelength, Model XC-8513 OTDR provides simplex or duplex multimode testing, and can measure both fibers of duplex cable with one connection. Both fiber traces can be overlayed for comparison on instrument's display. Device determines cause and location of loss of fiber segment including fiber, connectors at each end, plus length of segment, with distance resolution of 0.5 m. It is suited for installing and fault-finding LAN fiber installations.

Megger Launches Unique Dual Wavelength OTDR

Designed for the LAN installer to test virtually all premises and campus fiber networks - including CCTV and legacy installations - the new dual wavelength Megger XC-8513 OTDR, capable of simplex or duplex multi-mode testing, is the only tester that measures both fibers of a duplex cable automatically with one connection.

The XC-8513 can 'see inside' fiber and quickly determine the cause and precise location of the loss of a fiber segment including the fiber, the connectors at each end plus the length of the segment, with a minimal deadzone and unique distance resolution of 0.5 meter.

The instrument is ideal for installers who need to test systems at both wavelengths such as when there are contractual obligations to document performance. It is invaluable when installing, fault-finding and documenting LAN fiber installations of all types and shows faults such as macrobends and is ideal when it is necessary to measure the fiber loss for predominantly within fiber backbones and CCTV installations.

Unlike its competitors, the XC-8513 simply uses a switch to change wavelengths and provides full duplex measurement capability at no extra cost. Its unique ability to measure the transmit fiber and the receive fiber of a duplex cable by connecting both fibers to the tester at the same time saves time and reduces error. The user no longer has to connect each fiber separately and save individual results since the instrument stores results as a tagged pair and prevents the possibility of separating individual test results. Another unique feature is the instrument's ability to overlay both fiber traces for comparison on the instrument's display.

To further benefit the LAN installer, the XC-8513, used with the Megger MPM2000 Optical Power Meter and the Megger MLS1000 Multimode Light Source, forms a complete configuration and fault finding package that meets TIA and IEC specifications. The MPM2000 and MLS1000 meets cable certification of optical links and offer optical loss testing of fiber optic cables.

Megger is one of the world's leading manufacturers and suppliers of electrical and telecommunications test and measurement equipment.
