Galazar Introduces a Pre-Integrated WDM Muxponder Reference Design - Ideal for Rapid Introduction of Multi-Rate Client Support on Existing WDM Platforms

OTTAWA, March 16 / / - Galazar Networks® Inc., today announced MXP2-F(TM), a pre-integrated reference design for WDM Muxponder applications. MXP2-F allows Network Equipment Providers to leverage Galazar's investment in development and verification to reduce the time and risk taken for delivering multi-rate, multi-protocol client interfaces on existing WDM platforms.

MXP2-F is a complete hardware and software reference design that supports the flexible multiplexing of many and diverse client protocols into high speed serial links for WDM networks.

Optical client interfaces include 10 SFPs operating from 125 Mb/s to 4.25 Gb/s and one XFP operating from 9.953 Gb/s to 10.7 Gb/s. These provide support for multi-rate Ethernet, FICON, ESCON, FibreChannel, SONET/SDH and OTN protocol terminations as well as flexible bit rate and protocol independent transport. DVB-ASI, SD-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI digital video clients are supported on these optical ports as well as via coaxial copper. WDM optical network connections are provided by four XFPs operating from 9.953 Gb/s to 10.7 Gb/s and another two SFPs operating at 2.488 Mb/s for SONET/SDH and OTN protocol support.

Control and monitoring functions are implemented within Galazar's DeviceManager(TM) and ServiceManager(TM) RTOS independent software running on a PowerQUICC II(TM) microprocessor. In addition to the features provided by Galazar's products, MXP2-F includes integration and software support for the following products.

AMCC 10G XAUI to XFI transceiver
Avago SFPs for client interfaces
Broadcom 10G SFI-4 to XFI transceiver
Gennum adaptive cable equalizer, cable driver, SDI reclocker
Motorola PowerQuiccII(TM) microprocessor
NDK 3rd overtone crystals
Powerone DC-DC POL converters
Silicon Labs Any-Rate Clock Multipliers and Jitter Attenuators
Suntsu LVCMOS oscillators
Vitesse 10G XAUI to XFI transceiver
Xilinx Vitex®-5 FPGAs
Zarlink system synchronizer, clock generation

"We've been fortunate to have the ongoing support of these companies over several generations of our reference platforms." said Galazar's CEO Richard Deboer, "We're taking this opportunity to thank them all for their support, especially during the development our MXP2-F reference platform."

"By offering a fully integrated WDM Muxponder reference design complete with software, Galazar can help customers significantly reduce their time to market," said Dino Pozzebon, Senior Manager, Market Strategies and Solution Architectures at Xilinx. "This new development system is aligned with the Xilinx Targeted Design Platform strategy that enables designers to significantly reduce development time by spending less time developing the infrastructure of their application and more time creating their unique value in the design."

A holistic approach was required to design solutions for these complex and flexible applications. Timing recovery, for example, is one aspect where Galazar worked very closely with other silicon suppliers to ensure that the overall solution was properly engineered. The result is a reference design that performs well over a wide range of functional and jitter specifications.

"In today's design environment, it is vital for companies to provide reference designs to expedite the development process. By bringing system knowledge to the timing element of the Muxponder solution and leveraging our unique Any-Rate timing products, we were able to provide high performance and highly integrated timing recovery and jitter attenuation devices to vastly simplify the customer's design," said Mike Petrowski, product line director at Silicon Labs.

Availability

The MXP2-F reference design as well as the associated DeviceManager and ServiceManager software are available now and delivered by Galazar's exceptional support organization.
