Red Bend's Mobile Software Management Integrates with ARM's New Cortex-A7 Processor to Usher Era of More Powerful, Energy-efficient Mobile Devices

Red Bend Supports ARM 'big.LITTLE' Processing for Always-on, Always-connected Mobile Devices

WALTHAM, Mass. - Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management (MSM) with more than 1 billion Red Bend-Enabled(TM) devices, today announced that its suite of Mobile Software Management solutions, including its VLX(TM) mobile virtualization software, will support the powerful, energy-efficient new ARM® Cortex(TM)-A7 MPCore(TM) processor. The Cortex-A7 processor will usher in a new era of advanced mobile devices that deliver far greater performance, provide significantly extended battery life and enable the many benefits of mobile software management-including firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updating, application management, device management and virtualization-for enterprises and consumers.

The recently launched Cortex-A7 processor is ARM's most efficient application-class processor. It is designed to work in concert with the Cortex-A15 MPCore processor, which is capable of handling high-intensity applications in what ARM calls "big.LITTLE processing." The availability of big.LITTLE processing will enable operating systems to make use of these computing resources in the most power-efficient manner by switching workload seamlessly between two processor clusters. As a result, the Cortex-A15 processor's performance capabilities can handle heavy workloads, while the ultra efficient micro-architecture of the Cortex-A7 processor will take over to most efficiently process light workloads needed for always-on, always-connected tasks, which extends battery life.

Red Bend's Mobile Software Management solutions will integrate with the virtualization extensions in the Cortex-A7 and Cortex-A15 processors to efficiently and securely manage firmware, software and mobile devices over the air, and enable multiple operating systems to run simultaneously on a single device. VLX(TM), the industry's most widely deployed mobile virtualization software, is a Type-1 hypervisor that de-couples hardware management (ARM architecture) and application environments (Android, Linux, proprietary, etc.). As a result, VLX will provide the software intelligence necessary to enable the effective migration of the device workload between the Cortex-A15 and Cortex-A7 processors within the VLX hypervisor, bringing the benefits of big.LITTLE processing to virtualized mobile devices. Together with ARM, Red Bend will enable a new class of secure, enterprise-ready open-platform mobile devices supporting the Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) to work trend.

"Developing innovative mobile devices that deliver a feature-rich experience and change the way individuals work and live requires industry leaders to work closely together," said Richard Phelan, Senior Strategic Software Partner Manager, ARM. "ARM has been working with Red Bend Software to drive this development and provide innovative solutions to mutual customers. As a leader in Mobile Software Management, Red Bend is well positioned for mass-market deployment of virtualization solutions to consumer and enterprise smartphones, tablets and wirelessly connected devices."

"ARM's vision for a connected world and expertise in processor design are why its technology powers virtually every mobile handset," said Yoram Salinger, CEO of Red Bend Software. "Red Bend is uniquely positioned to leverage the virtualization extensions of the Cortex-A7 processor and other ARM processors to deliver the most comprehensive Mobile Software Management solutions to the mobile industry, automotive manufacturers, enterprises and beyond. Red Bend is proud of our growing relationship with ARM as we collaborate to bring the value of the new Cortex-A7 processor and big.LITTLE processing to the ARM ecosystem."
