Rectifiers offer options for armature-actuated brakes.

Press Release Summary:

Stearns® AAB Rectifiers include Quick Set and Quick Set/Release features. Quick Set provides quicker coil turn-off where rectifier AC input leads are wired permanently and directly to input terminals of AC motor line. Quick Set/Release model provides same function and also energizes coil to reduce armature attraction time. Optional proving switch monitors current wave form of brake coil and signals when brake is released via light, buzzer or other alarm device.

Stearns® AAB Rectifiers Offer New Options for Armature-Actuated Brakes

MILWAUKEE--October 23, 2002...The Stearns Division of Rexnord
Corporation has expanded its line of rectifiers for use with armature-actuated electric brakes. The firm's full line of rectifiers now includes Quick Set and Quick Set/Release products that reduce brake set time or armature attraction time for specific applications.

Also new is an optional proving switch option that monitors the current wave form of the brake coil and signals when the brake is released via a light, buzzer or other alarm device. The rectifiers have sufficient capacity to operate a lockout switch that will not allow the motor to start until the brake is released, which helps prevent equipment damage and overloads.

The Quick Set feature provides quicker coil turn-off where the rectifier AC input leads are wired permanently and directly to the input terminals of the AC motor line. This serves to reduce the brake set time in the presence of motor-generated voltage after it is turned off. The Quick Set/Release model provides the same function and also energizes the coil to reduce armature attraction time. It then can be used as a rated coil voltage turn-on rectifier with reduced voltage (wattage) during the remainder of the coil on-time.

Other Stearns AAB rectifiers include Full Wave, Half Wave, and Combination Full and Half Wave, all of which control the polarity of the line sine waveform. TOR-AC Full and Half Wave versions provide coil turn-off nearly as fast as DC-side switching. Bi-Phase rectifiers also are available, for use with permanent split capacitor (PSC) motors).
