Davis-Standard's Scrapper® Modified for Foam Reprocessing

(Pawcatuck, Conn.)-Davis-Standard has developed a modified version of its popular Scrapper® reclaim extruder specifically designed for foam reprocessing. The "Foam Series" dual-diameter Scrapper features a wide, grooved feed section for reprocessing low bulk density material. It is also equipped with a single flight screw in the feed area to better grip lightweight PS,
PE and PP foam scrap. This design gives processors higher production rates than with standard extruders and the capability to feed material weighing from a half pound to 8 pounds (.2 to 4 kg) per cubic foot.

"Our Foam Series Scrappers have performed exceptionally well in the field," said Steve Kriger, Davis-Standard's reclaim product manager. "This is a growing area of reclaim because of the increase in foam production and the need to reprocess foam material due to its low bulk density. During reprocessing, residual gas and trapped air from the cells is removed making the material suitable to feed back into the foam process without affecting quality and characteristics."

The foam version of the Scrapper is available in four sizes. Since it is a dual-diameter machine, sizes are listed with the diameter of the main process area followed by the diameter of the feed area: 3 1/2-inch (90mm) x 6-inch (150mm); 4 1/2-inch (115mm) x 8-inch (200mm); 6 1/2-inch (1 65mm) x 10-inch (250mm); and 8-inch (200mm) x 14-inch (350mm). The Scrapper's barrel heating and air-cooling zones are equipped with cast aluminum finned heaters and high capacity blowers. Water cooling is an available option. A steel, fixed weldment base supports the gear reducer, feed section and motor. A moveable base supports the smaller diameter main processing station along with filtering devices. The feed section and large diameter barrel section contain hardened, grooved liners for wear resistance and enhanced operating life.
