Leviton Expands Line of Industrial Hospital Grade Receptacles

Little Neck, NY, February 26, 2003. - Leviton's Industrial Products Division has expanded its line of Hospital Grade Receptacles with new Power Light(TM) Receptacles and SmartLock GFCI Receptacles. These new additions complement the comprehensive Hospital Grade receptacle line. The new line includes Hospital Grade 15 and 20 AMP receptacles in standard Decora® Plus, tamper-resistant, illuminated, isolated ground, surge protected, GFCI and Four-in-One® receptacle versions.

The New Power Light(TM) receptacle features a Power Light that meets UL 498 Hospital Grade identification requirements and that offers quick visual confirmation that the device in energized. The Power Light components are housed in a compact, fail-safe assembly. The Power Light circuit board integrates a green light in place of the traditional green dot on Hospital Grade devices with a 100,0000-hour LED behind the lens to confirm the receptacle's power status. The Power-Light also features an exclusive V-shaped, serrated back wiring clamp for superior- contact conductivity. The device is available in 15 and 20AMP standard duplex receptacle and Decora Plus models.

Leviton's new SmartLock(TM) GFCI is the industry's first GFCI to meet UL's new listing requirements for GFCIs. The SmartLock GFCI prevents resetting in case of line-load reverse wiring as well as when the device has been compromised and no longer provides ground fault protection. Like other electrical and electronic devices, GFCIs can become damaged as a result of transient voltage surges or lightning strikes. With standard GFCIs, users may incorrectly assume that a GFCI device that has been reset is still providing ground fault protection when it actually may not. With the Leviton SmartLock, once ground fault protection is compromised the device's lockout-action feature mechanically prevents the RESET button on the device from re-engaging, however, the device can1 still be tripped using the TEST button. This offers an extra measure of safety for users.
