Silicon Image Debuts Third-Generation HDMI Receiver ICs
New SiI 9023 Receiver Features Dual HDMI Inputs and Full 1080p Resolution Support at a Low Price Point
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 3 /-- Silicon Image, Inc. (NASDAQ:SIMG), a leader in the secure distribution, presentation and storage of high-definition content, extended its industry leadership today by unveiling its third generation of integrated circuits (ICs) compliant with the High-Definition Multimedia Interface(TM) (HDMI(TM)) and High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) specifications for consumer electronics devices. Fully backward compatible with DVI-based consumer electronics systems, the SiI 9023 receiver features dual HDMI inputs at a lower cost point than the previous generation, supports full 1920x1080 progressive (1080p) resolution for HDTVs, and standardizes design for easy implementation by current customers.
The third generation of Silicon Image's HDMI receivers extends the capabilities of the second-generation chip, the SiI 9021 receiver. Targeted at HDTVs, the new SiI 9023 receiver features dual HDMI inputs for simultaneous connection of multiple HDMI source devices such as DVD players and high- definition set-top boxes. Priced at a lower cost per port than Silicon Image's second-generation HDMI receivers, the SiI 9023 provides TV manufacturers a cost-effective means of implementing multiple HDMI inputs.

All Silicon Image HDMI receivers support High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP), the technology endorsed by major motion picture studios Fox, Universal, Warner Bros. and Disney for the secure transmission of their high-value digital content. Both of the new high-definition DVD standards coming to market in 2006 (Blu-ray and HD-DVD) require HDCP support through an HDMI or DVI connection to view movies at their fullest HD resolution. In addition, the DVD Copy Control Association (DVD CCA) has approved HDMI with HDCP for Content Scramble System (CSS) content playback on DVD players.

The SiI 9023 receiver is available immediately. Packaged as a 144-pin TQFP, the SiI 9023 is priced at $7.20 for 10k quantities.
