Read/Write Receptacles control peripheral devices.

Press Release Summary:

Keytroller II, Slimtroller II, and Unitroller II use serial memory key and/or serial memory token, and connect with RS-232, RS-485, or USB interface. They allow designers to integrate capabilities such as access control/user authentication and data transfer or storage. Panel-mount devices work in PLC- or PC-controlled applications and withstand rugged environments where it would be inconvenient to have hard-wired connection.

Original Press Release:

Datakey Electronics Launches Keytroller(TM) II / Slimtroller(TM) II / Unitroller(TM) II - OEM Read/Write Receptacles!

Burnsville, Minnesota, October 20, 2003 - Datakey Electronics, Inc. has started shipping their new line of industrial OEM peripheral devices that are compatible with all of Datakey Electronics' rugged, re-programmable serial memory keys and tokens: Keytroller II (key version), Slimtroller II (token version) and Unitroller II (key or token) are combination Reader/Writer /Receptacles with RS-232, RS-485 or USB interfaces. These panel-mount devices are designed to work in PLC- or PC-controlled applications.

This series of peripheral controllers allows system designers to easily integrate capabilities such as access control/user authentication, and data transfer or storage. They work in rugged environments where it would not be convenient to have a hard-wired connection such as LAN or twisted pair. For example, in an injection molding environment, mold-specific machine configurations can be stored on a memory token and kept with each mold. Insert the token into the Slimtroller II and the peripheral uploads all the setup information to the molding machine's PLC so it can run that particular part. This decreases set-up time and reduces human errors associated with data
entry. The token is extremely resistant to all of the hazards that would be encountered in a molding operation, such as chemicals, dropping, static discharge and more. For applications with limited space available immediately behind the control panel, the Unitroller II supports remotely connecting a panel-mount Keyceptacle® or Receptacle via a ribbon cable.

"The Keytroller II is perfect for PC-based, machine control or kiosk applications," commented Jeff Daniel, Business Development Manager, Datakey Electronics. "The Keytroller II provides a simple hardware interface between the application and a controller for data storage or access control. In addition to data logging and recipe uploading, this system can facilitate granting differing levels of machine access rights based upon training, need or trust."

The Keytroller II, Slimtroller II and Unitroller II come pre-packaged with communication cable, software and manual with mounting instructions. An optional stainless steel faceplate is also available to simplify mounting the units into panels.

Approximate retail cost is $128 to $145 ea. OEM quantity pricing available.
