Raven Chooses Davis-Standard for Nine-Layer Film System

(Bridgewater, N.J.) - Raven Industries, Inc. of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, recently selected Davis-Standard, LLC to supply a nine-layer pilot system for market development of new blown film barrier structures. The system, to be installed later this year, will feature nine extruders in various sizes and an 11-inch (280mm) ProCone multilayer die. The ProCone die is new technology from Davis-Standard. These dies are engineered in a stackable mandrel arrangement, which enables vertical and angular movement within the stack. This provides processors with even more versatility for structures with five to nine layers.

"We are excited about the possibilities with the new machine configuration," said Jim Groninger, Vice President and General Manager of Raven, Engineered Films Division. "We know the products developed on this system will lead to unique barrier films for all our markets and engineering applications. The flexibility built into the system is just what we need to position our company for future growth and diversity of products. Davis-Standard's technology and continued support has been outstanding."

In addition to the ProCone die, Davis-Standard is supplying custom DSB feedscrew technology and HPE coextruders as part of the nine-extruder configuration. These extruders, which are available in adjustable vertical or horizontal configurations, combine a smaller footprint with performance to add even more processing versatility. Once the line is operational, Raven will allow Davis-Standard to access the system for demonstrations and development.
