Original Press Release:

Snap-On Rotating Ratcheting Screwdriver Provides Twice the Turning Power With Increased Comfort

KENOSHA, Wis., March 3, 2005 - Driving, loosening and adjusting screws can now be accomplished more quickly and comfortably with the Snap-on® Multi-Position Ratcheting Soft Grip Screwdriver (SGDMRCE44). The new tool's patent pending gear mechanism and adjustable rotating handle allow users to tackle tough turning tasks from a variety of angles. The Snap-on Multi-Position Ratcheting Soft Grip Screwdriver features the Trans-Drive(TM) system, an exclusive ratcheting mechanism that features face-type pawls with 48 teeth that grab, engage and turn a 24-tooth gear. The pawls uniformly rotate the turning gear in both forward and reverse directions, offering better performance than ratcheting screwdrivers with single-tooth gear rotations. The gears and pawls are produced using metal injected molding rather than the traditional powdered metal process, creating a customized gear with twice the strength of the standard gear types on ratcheting screwdrivers. The 30- and 60-degree rotating locking handle builds upon previous Snap-on pistol-grip screwdriver designs with a new adjustable joint that gives users greater leverage through a comfortable grip and wrist positions. The ergonomic design reduces user fatigue by moving the turning power away from the wrist to the user's arm. By depressing a small button on the handle, the screwdriver rotates and locks into the selected working angle. A hand-operated cap at the base of the handle reverses the ratcheting mechanism. The Snap-on Multi-Position Ratcheting Soft Grip Screwdriver includes one magnetic shank, one Phillips® bit and one flat tip bit for general fastening uses. Additional shanks and bits are available separately for purchase. The screwdriver can be modified for a range of fastening applications through the correct combination of shank and bit. Up to seven bits can be stored in the screwdriver's handle for quick access. The removable end cap doubles as a short screwdriver when working in hard-to-reach places. The soft grip handle stands up to repeated use in any work environment. The Snap-on® Multi-Position Ratcheting Soft Grip Screwdriver is available in green, orange and red (SGDMRCE44G, SGDMRCE44O and SGDMCE44).
