Chromalox(R) Introduces Full-Featured Ramp/Soak Programmable Controller

PITTSBURGH, June 11, 2002 - Chromalox, a leading supplier of industrial heating solutions, announces a new ramp/soak controller for precise programming applications. The Model 2120
offers more segments (200) and more programs (90), at a lower cost than any other Ramp/Soak Controller in its class. This compact unit is 1/4 DIN and features a wide range of programmable
functions to meet the needs of most heat/control applications including test chambers, annealing, and curing processes.

A total of 200 segments can be used in up to 90 programs. For each program, operators can select one of 5 sets of PID parameters and up to 14 timed events, including program duration, repetitions, control outputs, wait bands, end of cycle indication, and end of profile indication. Up to nine programs can be linked, each containing up to nine programs. The Model 2120 has up to 11 logic inputs and 14 digital outputs, plus a real time clock/calendar option. The unit accepts TC, RTD and
Linear inputs, and a wide range of outputs including Relay, SSR Drive, Triac and Analog. Special control functions include a "Split Range" feature that divides the output from one control into two outputs, and "Output Linearization" for use with quick opening and equal percentage type valves.

Three digital inputs are standard on the 2120 with options for up to 8 additional inputs. Each input can be programmed to Select a program, Run/Hold, Abort, Set Output Limit, Reset, and other control actions. Up to 14 digital outputs can be programmed in manual or auto mode to Run, Hold, Time or End events. End-of-cycle and Error annunciators are included.

Up to 10 wait bands are available to perform precise ramps and soaks. Each segment may have different wait bands with programmable values above and below the set point. If a process variable is outside the programmed wait band, the ramp in progress will be stopped and then restarted when the variable returns inside the wait band. Similarly, a Guaranteed Soak function assures that during a soak, the process is maintained at the temperature set point for the entire programmed time.

Other control features include Output Value Alarms, which can be set to generate an action related to the control output value or percentage. A Square Root Extraction function allows the user to
measure flow with a standard DP transmitter, eliminating the need for other devices.

RS485 Digital Communications using Modbus protocol is optional on the 2120. A user can write their own software or use one of Chromalox's software packages. A PC-based configuration package is designed to simplify instrument set up and run time parameter settings. ChromaSoft SpecView(TM) is a Windows® based software package that enables multiple Chromalox controllers to communicate with each other from a single computer. Operators may view, change, and data log any control parameter with SpecView.

The Chromalox Model 2120 Ramp/Soak Controller has CE, UL and cUL approvals and comes with a 3-year warranty.
