RallyON Hackathon Pairs Rally with Its Customers to Create Apps for Leading Agile ALM Platform

Partnership with social-coding platform GitHub fosters open-source community that shares Apps for collaborating across the development lifecycle

BOULDER, Colo., -- Rally®, the leader in Agile application lifecycle management (ALM), launches rich new platform features and a social-coding environment at its annual RallyON conference this week with a live App Hackathon. Rally-and-customer hacker pairs are building Apps together using Rally's new App SDK 2.0 and an exclusive preview version of Rally's Analytics API. Rally's new partnership with GitHub provides a social-coding platform for Rally's development community to collaborate and share open-source code for Rally Apps.

"I'll be hacking with Rally's Agile metrics expert to build an App that will analyze and visualize the data we track in Rally," said HomeAway's VP of Engineering, Jack Yang. "This App will be invaluable for gaining insight into the performance of our teams, helping us improve more quickly, make better decisions, and achieve better outcomes."

With over 2,000 customer-created Apps to date, Rally creates new ways for the larger ALM community to browse, share and learn how Apps are created and customized for unique needs. Rally's partnership with GitHub adds a powerful social-coding platform to Rally's global developer community, leveraging public repositories to create, continuously improve, and share open-source code. RallyON hackers will share their code throughout the Hackathon, making it accessible and lowering the barriers of collaboration for developers to build upon and deliver robust, valuable Apps.

"GitHub is proud to enable Rally's dev community to work together with anyone to build and improve awesome Apps for Rally's Agile ALM platform," said Chris Wanstrath, co-founder and CEO of GitHub.

"Rally has been doing hackathons for years internally to drive innovation and unleash the creativity of our employees to improve our products," said Todd Olson, VP of products at Rally Software. "This is the first of many hackathons where we'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with our customers to produce great software in a few days and share the results on GitHub with the entire community. I can't wait to see what we create with our customers!"

Rally offers easy customization and extension for creating a single source of record for decision-making across global development organizations. New and enhanced features include:

-- Simple, easy-to-build Custom Pages and Dashboards deliver customizable content to every page in Rally with just a few clicks.

-- Shareable Pages and Dashboards accelerate ramp-up time for new users and enable a fully customizable Agile ALM platform.

-- Preview of Rally's Analytics API, which offers new ways to quantify and measure software organizations' Agile performance over time.

-- Enhanced App Catalog offers nearly 100 pre-built Apps for any visualization and reporting need from the portfolio-level through development.

-- New AppSDK 2.0 introduces a rich component library and enhanced WSAPI for easily building custom Apps.

Rally's App Hackathon kicks off today at the second annual RallyON conference, April 30 - May 2, 2012, at the St. Julien Hotel in Boulder, Colorado. On May 2nd, RallyON attendees vote on the winners, announced on Rally's ProductBlog. For live updates, follow @RallySoftware on Twitter using the conference hashtag: #RallyON2012.
