Rack-Mountable Ceramic Filters suit FLO TV(TM) network.

Press Release Summary:

Supporting all-digital UHF transmissions, 900 W and 2 kW ceramic stringent mask filters are designed for FLO TV's single frequency network architecture. Units mount in standard 19 in. rack and offer high reject characteristics to enable adjacent channel operators to broadcast from same site with no interference. Insertion loss and drift are both minimized to maintain signal strength, and filters remain stable from cold start to full power operation.

RFS Launches Compact, Rack-Mountable Ceramic Filters for the FLO TV(TM) Network

Las Vegas - Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), the global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, is introducing two new ceramic filters that deliver leading-edge filter technology for the FLO TV mobile TV network in a space- and cost-saving rack-mountable design.

RFS is introducing the 900 W and 2 kW ceramic stringent mask filters at the 2010 NAB Show being held April 12-15 in Las Vegas. At the show, RFS is featuring state-of-the-art products and technologies that help mobile broadcasters gain an advantage over their competitors by leveraging cutting-edge technology. The new ceramic filters support all-digital UHF transmissions and were specifically developed for FLO TV's single frequency network architecture where a large network of single frequency sites is deployed.

Designed to mount in a standard 19-inch rack, the compact 3 rack unit (RU) and 5 RU filters are fully-integrated to save valuable floor space while simplifying and reducing the cost of installation and commissioning. "These filters are essentially plug-and-play," explains Mick Bennett, Global Product Manager, Broadcast and Defense Systems at RFS. "All of the required functionality is contained within the product and is pre-integrated during manufacturing. There is no need for costly and time-consuming on-site field support for installation, integration and testing of individual transmitter, filter and switch components. This approach also significantly reduces space requirements to keep real estate costs down."

The filters, which are additions to RFS' "12P" line of filters, offer extremely high reject characteristics to enable adjacent channel operators to broadcast from the same site with no interference to their signals. They also minimize both insertion loss and drift to help maintain signal strength, ensuring FCC mask compliance at all times. The filters minimize drift by remaining very stable from cold start to full power operation. "These filters are unique in that they do not drift into compliance with mask requirements," says Bennett. "They are fully 'in-spec' from the moment power is switched on to the time they reach full power."

RFS specialists on hand at the 2010 NAB Show include Mick Bennett (Global Product Manager, Broadcast and Defense Systems), Jay Martin (Sales Director, Broadcast and Defense Systems, North America) and Nick Wymant (CTO, Broadcast and Defense Systems).

To see these innovative ceramic filters and find out more about how RFS' state-of-the-art products and technologies empower broadcasters around the world to differentiate their service offerings, come and talk to our experts at the RFS booth (Las Vegas Convention Center, Central Hall, booth C2907).
