Quasi-CW UV Laser delivers 8 W of output at 355 nm.

Press Release Summary:

Paladin(TM) 355-8000 features compact, modular OEM design that facilitates integration and serviceability. It offers hands-free operation in harsh industrial environments and employs Permalign(TM) manufacturing technology for contamination-free, hermetically sealed package. Product uses AAA(TM) (Aluminum-Free Active Area) pump diodes fiber-coupled at power supply and is suited for laser direct imaging of PC boards and computer-to-plate production in reprographics.

Original Press Release:

Highest Power Quasi-CW UV Laser Features 8W Output

Santa Clara, Calif., August 16, 2004 - Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR) has introduced the Paladin(TM) 355-8000, the first commercial, quasi-CW laser to deliver 8 W of output at 355 nm. Since its release last year, the Paladin 355-4000 has earned an outstanding reputation for reliability and long lifetime in commercial applications. The increased power of the Paladin 355-8000 will now enable faster throughput and higher resolution for commercial applications such as Laser Direct Imaging (LDI) of PC boards and Computer-to-Plate (CTP) production in reprographics. As the first laser of its type to achieve this power level, it will also enable applications in the semiconductor and flat panel industries.

The Paladin 355-8000 utilizes the same design approach as the field-proven 4 W version, yielding long lifetime, a wide temperature and humidity operating range, and hands-free operation in harsh industrial environments. This is achieved by employing patented Permalign(TM) manufacturing technology to deliver a robust, contamination-free, hermetically sealed package, and by using AAA(TM) (Aluminum-Free Active Area) pump diodes that are fiber-coupled at the power supply. The compact and modular OEM design enables easy integration and serviceability. These characteristics, together with the design's inherent high efficiency, result in lower overall cost of ownership compared to competitive solid-state and argon-ion lasers.

The Paladin 355-8000 offers the same outstanding output performance specifications as the Paladin 355-4000. The opto-mechanical design of the Paladin 355-8000 ensures that these specifications are consistently maintained over the entire operational time, thus enabling its use in a wide range of demanding commercial applications.
