HPQ Series: Quarter Brick DC/DC Converter Delivers Ultra-High Power

o Up to 50A @ 3.3V providing output power up to 165W
o Efficiency up to 90%
o Wide range 36VDC to 75VDC input voltages
o 2250V isolation (BASIC)

The new HPQ series from Murata Power Solutions is an ultra-high power quarter brick, isolated DC/DC Converter. The module has a 3.3VDC fixed output and an output current of up to 50A providing up to 165W of power to applications such as datacom and telecom systems.

The new converter has an open frame design and an industry standard package measuring 58.4mm x 36.8mm x 10.2mm high. Designed for printed circuit board mounting, the module is suitable for use across its -40ºC to 85ºC. For applications where additional thermal performance is a critical design criteria, an optional baseplate can be provided.

The HPQ series has a wide voltage input range of 36VDC to 75VDC. An advanced planar magnetics design provides full magnetic and optical isolation with basic insulation up to 2250V. High efficiency to 90% is achieved through the use of a synchronous rectifier topology and the converter's fixed output voltage is regulated to within ±1% and may be trimmed within ±10% of nominal output. Excellent ripple and noise performance enable the HPQ series to meet the requirements of the latest power hungry CPUs, ASICs, programmable logic devices and FPGAs.

External remote on/off control that may use either positive or negative polarity is provided for applications needing controlled start-up or shutdown. Remote sense inputs compensate for resistive line drops at high currents. A number of self-protection design features include: input under-voltage lockout; input/output over voltage protection; over-temperature shutdown using an onboard temperature sensor; 'hiccup' output over-current protection with auto-restart; and start-up in pre-biased load conditions.

The HPQ series is fully RoHS compliant and is designed to meet the requirements of UL/EN 60950-1, CSA-C22.2 No. 60950-1 safety approvals, and RFI/EMI conducted /radiated emission compliance to FCC part 15.

Typical pricing in OEM quantities starts at $47.44 with lead-times from stock to 12 weeks ARO.
