phoenix|x-ray New quality|assurance Software Cuts Programming Times, Increases Automated Measurement Capabilities

Anaheim, Calif. (February 22, 2005) - phoenix|x-ray Systems + Services, Inc. today announced at APEX 2005 the immediate availability of its latest software for the company's family of 2D x-ray equipment, quality|assurance 2005. This newest software package is a full inspection environment designed to significantly cut the time to program an automated x-ray inspection test, while greatly improving the automated testing of the latest area array packages as well as QFP, MLF, and PTH. The ability to import any CAD files and in conjunction with the powerful inspection algorithms makes the software ideal for quality inspection of PCB.

The quality|assurance 2005 package includes a host of improvements that facilitate easy and intuitive programming, as well as automatic tools for program optimization. The ability to import any CAD file allows the x-ray machine to align and self identify all area array packages. The time required for program setup is greatly reduced as part types are saved to a common library, and optimized inspection routines are aligned with the part geometry.

"Back when typical assemblies had maybe 2 or 3 EGAs, it was acceptable to manually generate the inspection setup for a few parts. Today, our customers may have 40 or 50 area array packages on their products, so the need for a more efficient programming solution has been rising along with the proliferation of EGAs in electronics assembly," said Boris Mathiszik, Vice President of Sales. Mathiszik had also stated that the release of the company's CAD data based programming capability is one of the corner stones of phoenix|x-ray's effort to bring more ease-of-use and a higher degree of automation to semi-automatic x-ray equipment

In addition, the quality|assurance software with CAD enhances the automated measurement capabilities bringing powerful, folly automated inspection to semi-automated x-ray inspection machines. In conjunction with the CAD data, the software has improved self-teaching programming of inspection procedures for automated BGA inspection and automated die-attach inspection as well as with newer AXI modules released for QFP, MLF, and PTH inspection. Better programming and image processing for any x-ray inspection task lets the users upgrade any of phoenix's 2D systems.

The quality|assurance 2005 software with CAD is available today with any new system as an upgrade package for most of the company's system platforms.
