Qualcomm to Supply Low-Power Display Technology to KTF

First WCDMA Monitoring System with MEMS-based mirasol Display Due Out in 2008 -

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 - Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM), today announced that KT Freetel (KTF), one of Korea's largest operators and the country's first WCDMA wireless operator, has selected Qualcomm's MEMS-based mirasol(TM) display technology for its SHOW WCDMA Monitoring Systems. KTF and Qualcomm will demonstrate the SHOW Monitoring System at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show in the Qualcomm Partner Pavilion, South Hall 3, Booth #30340.

KTF's SHOW Monitoring System uses 3G WCDMA to transmit live video from a SHOW camera device to a designated mobile phone and is ideal for commercial asset monitoring or any number of uses in the consumer or enterprise markets. Video streams directly to the handset with a push of a button, enabling SHOW owners to view live video coming from the locations of their choice. The SHOW monitoring device also is equipped with motion sensors that send SMS alerts to the handset when there is physical activity near the base. Products will be introduced in 2008 in the Korean market, with other locations to be announced. KTF will announce distribution with retail partners at a later date.

"We are pleased to be working alongside KTF in this endeavor, especially given their long history as early adopters of new technologies and Korea's status as one of the world's most advanced wireless hubs," said Jim Cathey, vice president of business development, Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc. "It is a great opportunity to have some of the world's most sophisticated mobile users experience Qualcomm's mirasol display technology."

"We believe there will be increased consumer demand to instantly monitor locations of importance, such as homes and other property assets," said Yungdo Hong, senior vice president of KTF. "Given the mobile nature of the SHOW Monitoring System, our top priority in developing it was that it have longer than average battery life per charge. It was clear that the Qualcomm mirasol display offers this advantage by providing display technology that consumes very little battery power."

Qualcomm's mirasol display is based on a reflective technology called interferometric modulation (IMOD), a phenomenon that mimics the mechanisms that naturally create vibrant colors in a butterfly's wings. As a result of being highly reflective, the mirasol display enables users to view their information in a variety of ambient light - including bright sunlight. The designated mobile phone in the demonstration contains Qualcomm's Mobile Station Modem(TM) (MSM(TM)) MSM6245(TM) baseband processor.

About KT Freetel

KT Freetel has been at the forefront of developing the information and communications industry in Korea since its establishment in December 1997. Serving more than 13 million customers, KTF, the second largest operator in Korea, is dedicated to exploring open-ended possibilities and opportunities for mobile communications, digital convergence and wireless data services. As a global leader of wireless data services, KTF launched EV-DO service in 2002, making it the earliest mover to next-generation network. The company offers a variety of multimedia services including MMS, telematics, real-time TV broadcasting and video on demand. And as one of the two WCDMA licensees in Korea, KTF launched their HSDPA network in 2006, which will provide momentum for KTF to enhance its mobile service. KTF is headquartered in Seoul, Korea and is listed on the KOSPI (32390).

About Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc.

Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc. has developed the industry's first direct view MEMS display for mobile devices - a true technological innovation that offers low power consumption and superb viewing quality in a wide range of environmental conditions, including bright sunlight. Based on a reflective technology, Qualcomm's mirasol displays require no backlighting and therefore consume significantly less power than standard displays in portable devices. The display works by reflecting light so that specific wavelengths interfere with each other to create color. The phenomenon that makes a butterfly's wings shimmer is the same process used in Qualcomm's mirasol displays. Using advanced MEMS technologies, mirasol displays support Qualcomm's overall innovation strategy of increasing the capability of mobile devices while minimizing power consumption. Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc. is headquartered in San Diego, Calif., with offices in San Jose, Calif. and Hsinchu, Taiwan.
