Quaker Chemical Highlights New Chlorine Free Technology at FABTECH 2016

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., Nov. 15, 2016 - Quaker Chemical Corporation (NYSE: KWR, "Quaker") began the evaluation of chlorine free forming fluids well in advance of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) declaring the approaching ban on medium and long chain chlorinated paraffins (CPs), extreme-pressure lubrication additives for ferrous and stainless steel alloys. Due to their environmental impact, the EPA already banned the production and importation of short-chained CPs in the United States.

Leveraging our experience in developing and commercializing primarily chlorine free metal forming products, the new reformulated fluids offer the heavy duty performance our customers expect, without the chlorine content. Quaker has replaced CPs with proprietary additive packages which provide the same lubrication and barrier protection from metal to metal contact, at equivalent operating temperatures and conditions. Quaker will be showcasing new chlorine free drawing and forming fluids designed to match the performance of our top chlorine containing fluids in Booth C49022 at FABTECH 2016, the largest metal-forming, fabricating, tube & pipe, and welding tradeshow in North America. The show takes place at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada from November 16-18.

These high performance metal forming lubricants have been engineered to be used for both regular and alloy-coated tooling. Benefits of the QUAKERDRAW® and FERROCOTE® lines include:

  • Superior lubrication to increase die and punch life
  • Excellent corrosion protection
  • High film strength additives to reduce scratching and galling on parts and dies
  • Easily cleaned with solvent or alkaline cleaners
  • Can be used to replace chlorinated neat oils or emulsions on all metal types
  • Designed to be compatible with typical waste water treatment processes

At FABTECH 2016, Booth C49022, Quaker will also be featuring its "front-to-back" expertise of process fluids used for the front end of pipe making and for coating used at the back end for pipe protection (https://www.quakerchem.com/fabtech-2016/).
