QNX Software Systems Wins Eclipse Community Award for QNX Momentics IDE

OTTAWA, March 7 / - QNX Software Systems today announced its QNX® Momentics® IDE received the Eclipse Community Award for Best Commercial Eclipse-based Developer Tool at EclipseCon 2007. In addition, Doug Schaefer, senior tools developer at QNX and Eclipse CDT project lead, was selected as a finalist in the Top Ambassador category.

The Eclipse Community Awards recognize outstanding Eclipse-based projects and products. The QNX Momentics IDE was selected as a winner by a panel of judges from the community based on its user interface, innovation, and comprehensiveness. The QNX Momentics IDE, the first IDE for embedded development to leverage Eclipse Callisto, offers a flexible integrated development environment that combines innovative profiling tools with the latest Eclipse technologies to slash debug times and accelerate the optimization of complex embedded systems.

The tight integration between the QNX Neutrino® realtime operating system and the QNX Momentics IDE offers the undisputed best optimizations for faster development, error detection, and code optimization. QNX also offers as part of its standard commercial product its own customized Eclipse plug-ins, including new visualization tools that radically simplify the job of migrating, debugging, and optimizing software for multi-core processors.

"QNX has always been at the forefront when it comes to incorporating the latest Eclipse technologies into its tools," said Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation. "QNX Momentics IDE was one of the first Eclipse-based products on the market and, with this latest award-winning release, continues to be a leader in leveraging open source as a cornerstone for innovation."

This is the second consecutive year QNX has been recognized for its contributions to the Eclipse community. Last year, Alain Magloire, a software developer in the QNX development tools group, was chosen as the Top Committer. QNX was also recognized as a finalist in the Best Commercial Eclipse-based Development Tool category in 2006 for the QNX Momentics development suite.

QNX is a founding member of Eclipse and has served as project lead of the C/C++ Development Tools (CDT) Project, one of the most popular Eclipse-based integration development environments, since its inception.

"As one of the original members of Eclipse and the lead organization for the CDT Project, our contributions to the Eclipse community are a great source of pride for our company," said Mark Roberts, director of product management at QNX Software Systems. "The selection of the QNX Momentics IDE as the best commercial developer tool proves how companies can leverage open source frameworks while successfully differentiating their product through innovative, value-added development."
