QNX Neutrino RTOS Now Works with National Instruments Data Acquisition Devices

OTTAWA, Nov. 13 -- QNX Software Systems today announced that its QNX® Neutrino® realtime operating system (RTOS) is now supported by the National Instruments Measurement Hardware Driver Development Kit (MHDDK) and PCI multifunction data acquisition (DAQ) devices. As a result, design engineers can choose from the immense range of NI DAQ products -- from low-cost single-function units to high-speed multifunction devices -- while leveraging the proven fault tolerance and realtime performance of QNX Neutrino.

The NI MHDDK provides development tools and a register-level programming interface for controlling NI DAQ hardware, including the very popular PCI M Series DAQ devices. With this NI library, engineers building embedded systems based on the QNX Neutrino RTOS can easily add analog, digital and timing I/O functionality to their designs.

"NI is excited to have the opportunity to offer our PCI data acquisition hardware tools to engineers using QNX Neutrino," said John Hanks, NI director of measurement and control hardware. "QNX is a leading company in complex embedded design systems, and this relationship extends a broad range of I/O solutions to QNX Neutrino users, giving them additional options for developing custom applications."

Engineered for secure, high-performance systems, the QNX Neutrino RTOS is used in millions of installations worldwide, including process-control systems, medical instruments, security solutions, and a variety of other mission-critical applications. Often, these systems require analog I/O circuitry that engineers have to develop in-house. But now, development teams using QNX Neutrino can choose from the rich selection of NI off-the-shelf I/O modules to cut development costs, reduce time to market, and deliver highly tuned solutions.

"This combined solution offers the time-to-market benefits of industry standards: POSIX programming models and Eclipse-based development tools from QNX Software Systems, and the MHDDK programming model from National Instruments," said Linda Campbell, director of strategic alliances at QNX Software Systems. "National Instruments is a leader in PCI-based measurement solutions, and we are extremely pleased that QNX customers now have access to such a robust range of off-the-shelf I/O solutions."
