QNX Expands Tools Ecosystem

NUREMBERG, Germany, Feb. 13 /- Embedded World 2007 - Introducing a new era of tool integration for embedded developers, QNX Software Systems recently demonstrated the broad extent of plug-ins available for its latest version of the QNX® Momentics® IDE.

At the first international Eclipse PluginFest, QNX Software Systems verified the interoperability of the QNX Momentics IDE 4 with an array of third-party development tools. QNX worked with a number of vendors of Eclipse plug-ins, including plug-ins for UML modeling, requirements management, Java development, static code analysis, JTAG debugging, and automated testing. The testing sessions demonstrated how the QNX Momentics IDE gives embedded programmers unprecedented access to tools for the entire development lifecycle.

The Eclipse PluginFest was a two-day workshop dedicated to improving interoperability among Eclipse-based products for embedded development. Almost 20 industry leaders participated in the event, including ARM, IBM, Perforce, Klockwork, Telelogic, Symbian, and STMicroelectronics.

"Multiple third-party tools worked with QNX Momentics IDE 4 right out of the box, a testament to our open architecture and to our strategic decision to synchronize QNX Momentics with the latest releases of the Eclipse platform," said Doug Schaefer, senior developer at QNX and project lead for the Eclipse CDT project. "Embedded systems are becoming phenomenally complex, and to address that complexity, developers need a full arsenal of tools that work in harmony to simplify development efforts. The Eclipse-based QNX Momentics IDE makes such integration a reality."

More about the QNX Momentics IDE 4

QNX Momentics IDE 4 is the first IDE for embedded development that incorporates the most current versions of the Eclipse platform (v3.2) and the Eclipse CDT C/C++ development tools (v3.1), both of which form part of the landmark Eclipse Callisto release.

The new IDE introduces several value-added tools, including visualization tools for maximizing the performance of multi-core systems and a memory analysis tool that instantly detects memory errors and helps optimize long-term memory usage. QNX Momentics IDE 4 is also the first fully componentized IDE for the embedded market, allowing developers to download the latest QNX tool updates without having to wait for, or migrate to, a new version of the IDE.
