QNX and Fujitsu Demonstrate the Latest in High-End Graphics Control for Embedded Systems

NURNBERG, Germany, Embedded World 2006, Feb. 14 / -- As the world leader in OS solutions for advanced graphics in embedded systems, QNX Software Systems today announced early support for Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe's (FME) newest and most advanced graphics display controller (GDC), the Carmine MB86297.

Both companies have optimized their respective designs for the unique challenges of the embedded market to offer the industry's best graphics rendering performance. The advanced graphics support and image-layering technologies of the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS are ideally suited to harness the extensive multimedia capabilities of the Carmine GDC. In addition, both companies support the OpenGL ES standard, a flexible, cross-platform API for full-function 2D and 3D graphics on embedded systems -- including handheld devices, appliances, and vehicles.

QNX and FME have collaborated since 2002, and both companies have recently emerged as leaders in supporting high-end graphical displays, particularly for in-car computing and infotainment applications, such as in-dash navigation and rear-seat entertainment systems.

"Makers of advanced graphics interfaces, particularly for automobiles, are increasingly demanding seamless, high-performance, rich user-interface experiences while still meeting the requirements of a rugged environment," said Andrew Poliak, automotive segment manager for QNX Software Systems. "QNX and Fujitsu are well-positioned with solutions to meet these demands, and we look forward to our continued industry-leading success."

"The coming together of QNX and FME will, in my personal opinion, ensure the success of the launch of Carmine. Furthermore, the Embedded World show gives us the perfect platform to demonstrate to the world the capabilities we have developed together," said Dirk Weinsziehr, senior marketing director at Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe.
