ARRIS Announces Availability of D5(TM) Universal Edge QAM QPM 8DX4 Module

New QAM Module Delivers Lowest per Channel Power of any 2RU EdgeQAM Device

SUWANEE, Ga., April 14 /-- ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) today announced availability of a new high density 'quad octal' module for its D5 Universal Edge QAM (UEQ) solution. The QPM (Quad Port Module) 8DX4 is a high density QAM-RF module that can be used for Video on Demand, Switched Digital Video and DOCSIS M-CMTS applications. The module has 4 RF ports, each capable of outputting up to 8 QAM channels that meet the DOCSIS DRFI specification. The configuration of each RF output is highly flexible, allowing support for multiple services on a single QAM channel, on multiple QAM channels within a bonded serving group, or on different QAM modules in the D5 UEQ. The architecture of the card also allows for future expansion to a higher number of QAM channels via software. The D5 UEQ with QPM 8DX4 installed will support up to 192 Annex B QAM 256 Channels and 144 Annex A QAM 256 channels with software Release 3.0. The QPM 8DX4 also offers other innovative features to MSOs - one of which includes a demodulation of the Downstream Channels to monitor and analyze the performance of the QAM channel.

The compact and scalable D5 UEQ is a unique class of IP edge modular device that enables delivery of a wide array of multimedia content in a redundant, modular, two-rack unit. The number of output channels can be set independently for each RF port, ranging from 1 QAM per port to 8 QAMs per port to offer the operator a 'deploy now' and 'wire once' migration to higher QAM channels counts per service group. The QPM 8DX4 offers the lowest channel power per QAM of any device in this class with < 3W per channel in deployed configurations. The new QPM 8DX4 integrates into the existing D5 UEQ chassis and provides all the system level capabilities that customers have come to expect in ARRIS Edge QAM products.

"More services are moving to narrowcast and unicast. This requires massive growth in bandwidth supported at the edge of the network, without requiring additional rack space and power consumption," said Charles Cheevers, ARRIS VP, Product Line Management, Multimedia and CTO, Europe. "The new QPM 8DX4 module gives operators scope to wire once and increase the number of QAM channels to meet the demand for additional capacity to the Service Group."

With 24 F-ports now delivering 192 Annex B channels in 2RU, the D5 UEQ with the 8DX4 offers operators the chance to support up to 24 service groups from a single D5 UEQ or with striping to minimize the number of F-ports utilized for any class of service.
