Pushbutton Switches withstand washdowns.

Press Release Summary:

GB and G3B series of washable, ultra-miniature through-hole and surface mount pushbuttons have Sliding Twin Crossbar (STC) contact mechanism, where gold plated contacts are wiped clean with every actuation. Switches are suitable for use in low voltage, low current, logic level circuits, such as handheld equipment. Both models are sealed for automated processing techniques including flux-cleaning procedures, and vapor phase and infrared reflow soldering.

NKK Switches Introduces New Ultra-Miniature Pushbuttons With Patented Sliding Twin Crossbar Contact Mechanism

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (March 25, 2002) - Committed to providing the highest quality and most reliable switches in the market, NKK Switches offers the new GB and G3B series of washable, ultra-miniature through-hole and surface mount pushbuttons.

The ultra-miniature GB and G3B series of pushbuttons feature NKK's patented and award winning Sliding Twin Crossbar (STC) contact mechanism. The innovative design guarantees unparalleled logic level switching reliability, as the gold plated contacts are wiped clean with every actuation. A combination of rounded movable and stationary contacts provides smooth contact feel.

Designed for use in low voltage, low current, logic level circuits, the ultra-miniature size of the GB and G3B series allows for high-density mounting. Incredibly lightweight, the 0.25-gram switches are ideal for handheld equipment.

Both GB through-hole and G3B surface mount pushbuttons are totally process sealed for automated processing techniques including flux-cleaning procedures. The bushing and housing are constructed of one molded piece. A rubber o-ring surrounds the actuator and a rubber seal surrounds the base where it fits into the actuator. Terminals are epoxy sealed and molded in to lock out flux, solvents and other contaminants. The heat resistant resin used for the housing, base and actuator on all GB and G3B pushbuttons allows vapor phase and infrared reflow soldering for the surface mount devices. Excellent and guaranteed coplanarity control makes the use of solder paste on decreasing screen thickness a non-issue during processing.

Terminal spacing on all devices is .100 X .100 standard PC board grid spacing. The GB through-hole pushbuttons' round terminals facilitate easier mounting, while gull-wing terminals on the G3B surface mount switches provide mechanical stability during soldering and simplify solder Joint inspection.

The tiny GB and G3B ultra-miniature pushbuttons can be specified in single pole and double momentary circuits. Actuators are .130 inch long. Colored caps with a .157-inch diameter can be ordered. The switches are rated O.4VA @ 28V AC/DC maximum. The applicable range is 0.1 mA - 2OmV - 28V. Matching indicators with red, yellow or green LEDs can be ordered.

The GB series through hole is available in straight PC, right angle and vertical mounted models. Nominal operating force is 200 grams.

The G3B surface mount switches can be specified in upright, bracketed upright and right angle versions. Nominal operating force is 183 grams. Right angle surface mount switches are packaged tape-reel and the upright devices are packaged in stick-tube. Partitioned tray packaging is available upon request.

NKK's washable GB and G3B through-hole and surface mount pushbuttons are IECQ approved.

A leading designer and producer of electromechanical switches, NKK Switches offers one of the industry's most extensive selections of illuminated, process sealed, miniature, specialty and surface mount switches.
