NKK Switches Announces HB2 Quiet Actuation Illuminated Pushbutton Switches

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (May 14, 2003) - NKK Switches today expanded its line of illuminated products with the HB2 series of quiet actuation, subminiature, illuminated pushbutton switches.

In the HB2 series, NKK Switches offers design engineers a highly reliable, aesthetically-pleasing and illuminated alternative to the existing lighted pushbuttons. This series represents a clear solution to many design challenges. While useful in many applications, this feature is particularly well-suited to the audio/broadcast, telecommunications and medical industries. The introduction of the HB2 series exemplifies NKK Switches' dedication to meet the ever-changing needs and demands of the respective industries.

The HB2 series pushbutton switches feature quiet actuation coupled with crisp tactile feedback, making clear the status of the circuit. NKK Switches' award-winning Sliding Twin Crossbar (STC) contact mechanism ensures unequalled switching reliability, as the contacts self-clean with every actuation.

The HB2 series of SPST, momentary, quiet actuation, square pushbuttons fit any front panel design requiring an illuminated switch with a compact body and critical behind-panel depth. The short body measures only 17mm (.669") from PCB to the top of the cap. The HB2 housing measures 7.8mm (.307") square with a 7.5mm (.295") square cap. The switches feature crimped power terminals that ensure secure PCB mounting and prevent dislodging during the soldering process.

Because engineers can specify red/green or red/yellow bicolor LEDs, the HB2 series can enhance any front panel design. The isolation of the LED circuits allows designers to simultaneously illuminate the bicolor LEDs to produce an amber color, which essentially offers three-color options in each instance. The caps are clear with a white diffuser that evenly and brilliantly diffuses the colored light source. They easily lend themselves to legending with screen printing, pad printing or film inserts. Designers can request legend packets designed to facilitate the specifications of the product from NKK Switches.

The HB2 series is rated at 0.4VA maximum @ 28V AC/DC maximum. It features both long electrical life and mechanical life with 100,000 operations minimum. The movable contact and contact terminals are gold-plated. The housing and base are constructed of glass fiber reinforced polyamide.

A leading designer and producer of electromechanical switches, NKK Switches offers one of the industry's most extensive selections of illuminated, process sealed, miniature, specialty and surface mount switches. The company manufactures more than three million toggle, rocker, pushbutton, slide, rotary, DIP rotary, keypad and keylock switches. NKK Switches maintains a complete network of qualified representatives and distributors through the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Europe and Asia.
