NKK Switches Announces New Ultra-Thin Pushbutton Switches

JF Series Non-Illuminated Enhances Panel Aesthetics

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (October 11, 2004) - NKK Switches announces the release of its JF series of pushbutton tact-style switches, an ultra-thin, dome contact series designed to enhance the appearance of front panels.

The JF series features an extremely low profile from the PCB to the top of the switch, and offers a wide choice of body shapes and colors. This extensive series is available in round or square shapes with four different styles of actuators. Actuator types include flat square or flat round, sculptured and piano style. The housing is black and effectively frames the vibrant colors offered of red, orange, green, blue or gray.

These SPST, momentary ON tact-style pushbuttons have straight PC terminals. The terminal spacing .500" X .400" conforms to standard PC board layout. Engineered to ensure secure mounting on the PCB, the terminals are crimped and provide a spring-type action preventing dislodging during wave soldering.

Rated 50mA @ 24V DC, the JF series has several distinctive characteristics further setting it apart from other switches. These devices feature a rubber seal construction that prevents contact contamination and allows automated soldering and cleaning. The minimal operating force and short stroke deliver a light touch operation, making the JF pushbuttons a favorite among design engineers.

The JF series is constructed with a dome contact that delivers crisp tactile and audible feedback, positively indicating circuit transfer. In addition, the contact mechanism assures high reliability and long life. Both the mechanical and electrical life is rated at 500,000 operations minimum. The compact body dimensions allow design engineers to mount these pushbuttons side by side on a standard grid. They can be used in a keyboard matrix, and by using strapped terminals, achieve a common bus electrical configuration on a single-sided PC board. They can also be arranged to achieve an X-Y matrix.

The JF series lends itself easily to legending. The recommended print methods are screen print, pad print or laser etching. To order these devices with legends, contact NKK or any of their authorized distributors. In order to facilitate the ordering of legends, NKK provides worksheets on line for this specific series.
