Pushbutton Switch offers life of 10 million actuations.

Press Release Summary:

HP Series Hall-effect sealed switch uses magnet and IC to detect motion, position, or change in field strength of magnet to provide linear output that is switched without bounce. Input voltage is 5 Vdc, with programmable output range is from 0.5-4.5 V. Operating in temperatures from -40 to +85ºC, switch also has ability to have redundant, linear Hall devices. Hall-effect circuit can be sealed to IP67 specifications, making switch suited for off-highway/industrial applications.

C&K Develops Hall-Effect Pushbutton Switch with Extended Life Cycles to 10 Million Actuations

Hall-effect design provides clean, fast, linear output that is switched without bounce...

NEWTON, MA - C&K Components, a leading international supplier of tact switches, toggle, rocker and pushbutton switches, and smart card interconnect devices, has developed a Hall-effect pushbutton switch with life cycles to 10 million actuations. Designated the HP Series, the sealed switch features a non-contact Hall-effect contact system, and a high-energy magnet provides a linear magnetic field for the Hall device.

"The HP Series Hall-effect switch uses a magnet and an IC to detect the motion, position, or change in the field strength of the magnet to give a clean, fast, and linear output that is switched without bounce - an inherent problem with mechanical contact switches," said David Webber, director of product management for C&K Components. "Because the switch employs a magnet, the electrical life is virtually limitless and the reliability is such that the switch will not experience field failures."

The Hall-effect circuit is highly sensitive and provides reliable, repetitive operation in close tolerance applications. The circuit is practically immune to environmental contaminants and can be sealed to meet IP67 specifications, making the switch ideally suited for use in harsh off-highway and industrial applications.

The HP Series switch also has the ability to have redundant, linear Hall devices. Input voltage is 5VDC, with a programmable output voltage range from 0.5V to 4.5V and one or two available outputs. Actuator travel is 0.150" and operating temperature ranges from -40ºC to +85ºC.

Typical pricing for the HP Series pushbutton switch ranges from $21.00 to $27.00 in low volumes. Lead time is from 4 to 6 weeks.
