Original Press Release:

New Compact Varian, Inc. 2000 L/S Class Turbo Pumping System Features Fully Integrated Electronics

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 5 / -- Varian, Inc. (NASDAQ:VARI) today unveiled its new Turbo-V 3K-T Pumping System, designed to provide highest-in-class performance for high-energy physics and research applications as well as industrial production environments.

Featuring integrated sophisticated electronics and intelligent MoniTorr(TM) technology for remote pump status diagnostics, Varian's compact Turbo-V 3K-T is the only 2000 liters/second (l/s) pumping system to combine a fully integrated electronics interface with a maintenance-free dry lubrication system. Traditional pumping systems need an external power supply or electronics drive unit, which requires additional installation costs and occupies valuable electronics rack space. With the Turbo-V 3K-T, the result is a minimized system footprint, simpler system installation and operation, and enhanced system reliability and productivity.

The Turbo-V 3K-T's optimized turbo design allows it to be used by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and vacuum processing system end users for a wide range of demanding high-gas load applications, including light gases as well as high-compression ultra-high vacuum (UHV) applications. It is particularly suited for applications where continuous operation and reliability are critical, such as in-line coating and batch coating systems for thin film deposition.

The Varian Turbo-V 3K-T Pumping System is currently available for order, with shipments scheduled for the end of September 2005.
