Pumpcoat Provides Long-term Solution to High Wear Problem with Specialty Ash Parts

Most Power Plants run on coal, oil, gas or trash/biomass, and in burning the fuel, create Ash as a by-product. Ash often creates concern for the people running the plant, as it is highly abrasive and wears down everything it comes into contact with. Most parts in Ash-handling systems don't stand a chance.

Mike O'Leary, Sales Director of Pumpcoat, Inc. has been working with power plants for over 20 years. He has seen many common problems in Power plants, and has worked to develop some solutions. A trash burning plant in New England had such a problem with excessive wear of screw auger couplings in their Ash System. They would wear out and several would have to be replaced every 3 to 6 months. This was costly in having to purchase replacement parts, created additional work for the maintenance staff, and increased down-time as the entire system had to be taken off line to replace them.

Pumpcoat took specifications and created a replacement screw auger coupling, which was then manufactured by their repairnet vendor. The Specialty part was made of A2 case hardened steel. The Power Plant ordered them in quantity and put them into service. The increased life span of the parts has not been determined as the Specialty Screw Auger Couplings have yet to wear out. They have currently been in service for more than 3 years. Pumpcoat has also made other high wear and corrosion resistance parts for ash-handling systems using hardened materials and specialized coatings.

Pumpcoat has been successful in developing solutions for similar problems in Power plants, Water Treatment facilities, Industrial and Biopharmaceutical plants.
