Pulse Width Modulation Controller improves efficiency and space.

Press Release Summary:

Supplied in 8-pin SOIC package, off-line green mode PWM controller UCC28610 minimizes space while providing high efficiency in power supply applications with rated output power from 15-65 W. Frequency and peak current modulation creates efficiency levels of 85% at full load, while cascaded MOSFET configuration lends to line surge ruggedness. In addition to 125 mW no-load power consumption, features include over-current and overload protection.

Original Press Release:

TI's New Off-Line Green Mode Pulse Width Modulation Controller Improves Efficiency and Space in Power Supply Applications

DALLAS (Nov. 16, 2009) - Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE:TXN) today introduced an off-line green mode pulse width modulation (PWM) controller that minimizes space and system cost while providing high efficiency in power supply applications. The UCC28610's frequency and peak current modulation creates efficiency levels of 85 percent at full load and high efficiency over the entire load range. The UCC28610 uses 30 percent fewer external components than standard flyback controllers and is designed for applications with an output power range of 15W to 65W. Examples include AC/DC adapters, gaming, notebook and printer adaptors, LCD TVs and monitors, set top boxes, appliance power supplies, bias supplies or other supplies that need to meet ENERGY STAR efficiency standards or requirements under the Energy using Products (EuP) directive of the EU across the entire load range. Order samples of the UCC28610 today: www.ti.com/ucc28610-pr.

Key features and benefits of the UCC28610
  • Frequency and peak current modulation allows 85 percent efficiency at full load and optimized efficiency over the entire load range
  • Industry-leading, 125-mW no-load power consumption is more than 200 percent better than current ENERGY STAR requirements
  • Advanced over current and overload protection eliminates overdesign, which helps reduce the power supply cost by as much as 30 percent when compared to the industry-standard power limit feature
  • Cascoded MOSFET configuration enables better line surge raggedness than internal high-voltage FETs
  • Thirty percent fewer external components helps reduce size, system cost and complexity compared to less integrated flyback controllers
