PTi Schedules NPE Technical Sessions on Advanced Sheet Extrusion Technology

Daily Presentations Cover Wide Range of Innovative Processes and Techniques

AURORA, Ill. – Processing Technologies International (PTi), a leading global manufacturer of high-performance sheet extrusion machinery, will host a wide range of technical presentations on new technology and innovative processes and techniques at NPE 2015: The International Plastics Showcase, March 23-27 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando (Booth W4182).

The technical sessions, which previously were presented at industry conferences and symposiums such as the SPE Thermoforming Conference, SPE Global Plastics Environmental Conference (GPEC), Plastimagen, and the TAPPI meeting, will be available to show attendees at the PTi booth at scheduled times throughout the show week. These daily presentations will focus on IV monitoring, “dryer-less” extrusion, thin-gauge extrusion, and multi-nip low-stress sheet extrusion.

“We’re an engineering company first and foremost and our goal is to offer processors the latest advanced design innovations and technology developments that give customers a significant edge when it comes to end product quality and machine versatility,” said Matt Banach, vice president of sales and marketing for PTi.

A session on real-time PET IV monitoring will be held Monday through Thursday at 10 a.m. In PET extrusion, the maintenance and preservation of the material’s intrinsic viscosity (IV) is a key requirement of the process. The ability to monitor and track the relative level of the material IV in-process and in real-time is an invaluable process tool. PTi will offers key insight and guidance on real-time IV monitoring.

PTi will also hold a presentation on its HVTSE® Dryer-less PET/PLA extrusion technology, Monday through Thursday, at 11:30 am. Due to their hydroscopic nature, PET and PLA materials require pre-drying prior to being extruded. Historically, that meant processors had to invest in large drying systems that consume not only time, but also high amounts of energy in the form of electricity or natural gas. PTi’s “dryerless” sheet extrusion system is an eco-conscious manufacturing solution which delivers major energy savings and cost reduction.

Tips and techniques on thin-gauge sheet production will be offered Monday through Thursday at 2 p.m. There is a fine line between what constitutes thin and thicker gauge sheet, according to PTi. As a general rule, heavy cast film ends where double-polishing thin-gauge sheet begins. This line, however, is constantly being redrawn as resins, quality expectations, and competitive pricing drives thermoformers to lighter product weights, says PTi. HVTSE® (high-vacuum twin-screw extrusion) is unique technology to produce PET or PLA sheet from recycled or virgin resins without the need for dryers or crystallizers.

Finally, the company will offer a session on its new Multi-Nip™ technology on Monday through Thursday at 3:30 pm. High quality, clear stress-free sheet is a must, according to PTi. Thermoformers are continually challenged as the competition continues to push them into wider platforms, faster run rates, and the need for lower product costs (predominantly part weights). At the same time, processors are faced with higher customer quality expectations, particularly in the packer/processor market segments. PTi’s Super G Multi-Nip technology provides the platform and processing tools to meet this challenge.
