New Metal-Polymer Bearing Material Offers Low Friction, Improved Dry Wear Resistance

GGB Bearing Technology, formerly Glacier Garlock Bearings, has developed a PTFE-based, metal-polymer bearing material for industrial applications requiring low friction and excellent dry wear resistance. These include cutting equipment, textile machinery, clutches, dampers, belt tensioners and flywheels, among others.

Called DP(TM)11, the new material provides improved dry wear performance under high-frequency and low-amplitude oscillating movements, even at high operating temperatures. The specific material structure of the bearings - steel backing, porous bronze interlayer and sliding layer of PTFE with solid lubricant and fillers - allows them to withstand maximum static loads of 250 MPa and maximum dynamic loads of 140 MPa. The bearings are capable of sliding speeds up to 2.5 m/s dry, and are suitable for use under operating temperatures ranging from -200°C to +280°C. Manufactured to low tolerances for reduced operating clearances, the dry-running bearings eliminate the need for lubrication and maintenance.

The DP11 material is available in a variety of configurations manufactured to users' specific requirements, including cylindrical and flanged bearings, strip, modified standard components, thrust washers, flanged washers, half bearings, flat components, deep-drawn parts, pressings and stampings. The DP11 material complies with both the EU ELV directive and RoHS regulation. For more information, e-mail germany@ggbearings.com or visit www.ggbearings.com
