Sigma-Aldrich Launches an Addition to Its Line of Proteomics Standards

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 8 /-- Sigma-Aldrich (NASDAQ:SIAL) proudly announces the launch of the new Proteomics Dynamic Range Standard (UPS2). We believe this is one of the most complex protein standards commercially available and that proteomics researchers now have a tool spanning a dynamic range to harmonize their research. The standard enables researchers to verify, challenge and troubleshoot their proteomics strategy as well as compare results with other labs.

The Proteomics Dynamic Range Standard is an enhancement of Sigma-Aldrich's original Universal Proteomics Standard (designed in collaboration with the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities, or ABRF, and launched in 2006). The same 48 human proteins have been HPLC-purified and formulated into a dynamic range of concentrations from 0.5 fmoles to 50 pmoles. This standard is the latest addition to Sigma-Aldrich's growing portfolio of proteomics standards.

"I believe the availability of a dynamic range standard like the UPS2 is invaluable for proteomics research, both for validating existing methodologies as well as developing new ones. I am pleased that Sigma-Aldrich has continued to extend their line of proteomics standards to address the quantification and dynamic range needs of proteomics researchers," said Dr. Phil Andrews, Professor, University of Michigan Medical School Department of Biological Chemistry.

"Successfully bringing new standards to market has been a significant investment and research project from our proteomics research team. We are very proud of our scientific abilities to be able to offer this innovative tool for proteomics research," said Tim Fleming, Director, Global Commercial Marketing - Life Science for Sigma-Aldrich.
