Protect Your Workers: ISO Format Safety Symbols

North Olmsted, OH, September 22, 2008

Range of standard safety icons.

Graphic safety symbols inserted in a standard ISO format can be great communicators of potential hazards on machinery or equipment. They could be used as secondary reminders of fully developed ANSI safety messages located in primary positions. While the ISO format is not generally recommended as a stand alone safety message in the U.S., it can be used in harmony with the international format.

ISO Format Safety Symbols

In the application of safety identification on machinery and equipment, available space and redundancy can sometimes be an issue. The use of ISO Format Safety Symbols along with standard ANSI format messages may be a viable alternative. Especially if the two are compatible and complementary.

A host of different icons are available covering hazards over a wide cross section of industries.

ISO Format Safety Symbols are available in plastic or metal versions for use in medium to harsh environments. The plastic version is produced in velvet polycarbonate, sub-surface printed, with permanent adhesive back. A miniature size is 1.68"h x 2.00"w. and the standard size is 3.37"h x 4.00"w. The metal version is constructed of anodized aluminum with etched and enamel filled copy, adhesive back and 3 mounting holes. Miniature size is 1.75"h x 2.00"w, standard size is 3.50"w x 4.00"h. Special versions can also be designed to meet unique hazard or communication needs.
