Original Press Release:

Jazz(TM) PLC+HMI: Much More than a "Smart Relay"

Unitronics, Airport City, March 1st, 2006 - The new Jazz(TM) by Unitronics is a Programmable Logic Controller that includes on-board I/O plus a full-function Operator Panel with numeric keypad. It enables users to replace the "smart relays" with a smarter, more powerful device, while keeping the same low budget.

Jazz(TM) offers advanced PLC programming capabilities such as 24K (virtual) of Ladder programming software, math, store/load, compare, clock, & vector operations functions. It also supports interrupt, loops and immediate read/write to I/Os. These qualities ensure maximum flexibility for easy implementation of complex tasks.

The Jazz(TM) provides 60 user-designed HMI screens. These screens can be used to display instructions to machine operators, for displaying conditional messages or variable data (time, date, bit status, timer & integer values). The alpha-numeric keypad can be used for data entry via the Jazz(TM) operator panel, and for viewing application data via the Information mode. In addition, the Jazz(TM) LCD display supports over 15 languages fonts, for perfect localization.

Jazz(TM) features a variety of communication options. SMS messaging capability provides real-time remote control via any GSM cell phone. Remote Access utilities enable downloading and debugging Jazz(TM) programs, operating the controller's panel, and viewing run-time parameters via remote PCs. Further communications include MODBUS (mainly for PC applications) and OPC/DDE servers.

This unique combination of features, along with the Jazz(TM)'s remarkably low price make it perfect for any application- from simple electric boards to complex production lines. Its High-speed inputs, combined with remote communication options make it the right choice for water and agriculture applications. Industrial lighting, automatic barriers/doors and air conditioning can also be easily and economically controlled by the Jazz(TM).

The Jazz(TM) compliments Unitronics' line of PLC/HMI devices. The M90/M91 (PLCs with textual display HMI) and the Vision (PLCs with Graphical or Touchpanel HMI) series offer advanced features such as PID with auto-tune, Data Tables, direct temperature/weight measurement inputs, and TCP/IP, GPRS or CDMA communications (model-dependent).
