Controller Automates Wind Tunnel Testing
Norwood, MA, August 8, 2005 - Advanced Thermal Solutions, Inc. (ATS) has introduced the WTC-100(TM), a fully automatic controller for laboratory wind tunnels that are used to thermally characterize PCB components, heat sinks, card racks, and other electronics hardware. The WTC-100 controller employs two independent sensors that simultaneously measure air velocity and temperature. The dual sensors allow fast, precise control of air flow to provide a wide range of wind tunnel test conditions. The WTC-100 regulates air velocities from 60 to 10,000 ft/min, depending on the capabilities of a wind tunnel's fan tray. Rapid feedback from the sensors maintains the air flow in the test domain to within +/- 0.5% of the set velocity.
The WTC-100 wind tunnel controller operates on all PC platforms with ATS stageCONTROL(TM) software, which is a user-friendly labVIEWTM based application. The stageCONTROL program allows users to precisely set the air flow range, including flow ramping and dwell times over a number of levels from minimum to maximum points. It provides a simple interface for wind tunnel calibration and for setting up and conducting thermal characterization tests. The WTC-100 can measure device temperatures from -10 to +150 degrees C
A basic WTC-100 unit can power up to 24 VDC fans, and different voltage fans can be used upon request. The controller measures 10.40-in. wide by 13.8-in. long by 4.5-in high. It runs on 115 volt AC power.
