Union Butterfield Adds Applix(R) MX DIN Strength Production Taps


Asheville, NC January 25, 2002...Union Butterfield has expanded their APPLIX® high performance tap line with a new MX Series of DIN overall length production taps. Designed to provide greater tap reach than standard USCTI overall tap lengths. MX Series taps are made from premium PM material for greater toughness and more wear resistance than conventional high speed steels, resulting in longer tap life, excellent abrasion resistance, and superior core and edge strength. The MX Series is available with TiCN coating for higher operating speeds, improved thread quality and greatly extended tap life. Coolant feeding styles permit rapid chip evacuation, higher tapping speeds, reduced cycle times and eliminate the problems associated with inadequate coolant in horizontal or deep hole applications.

A steam tempered treatment is available for non-coolant feeding styles providing reduced tap stress and chipping, reduced galling and enhanced lubrication.

Type MXP Spiral Point taps are recommended for through-hole tapping.

Type MXL Spiral Flute taps are recommended for blind hole work.
