Seco-Carboloy's New Secopoint(TM) Program Provides Cutting Tool Users With A Total Procurement Solution

Chicago, Ill., Sept. 8, 2004 -- Seco-Carboloy is announcing at IMTS 2004 that the company has introduced an integrated program to help users of cutting tools measure, control, influence and manage their manufacturing processes for optimum efficiency. The new SecoPoint(TM) program combines a unique set of systems and fulfillment capabilities that enables manufacturers to obtain better equipment and tooling utilization, improved productivity and reduced costs on the shop floor and in the supply chain.

The first element of the SecoPoint program is a unique software program called PCA (Productivity and Cost Analysis). PCA measures a process or workpiece as it moves through production, providing a complete analysis of the manufacturing process, machine utilization and cutting tool optimization. Seco-Carboloy technicians use PCA to identify those operations and processes that offer the greatest opportunities for improvement. Having used the PCA system for a number of years in a wide range of industries, Seco-Carboloy engineers say that typically results have shown improvements in productivity of up to 40 percent.

Using the PCA information, Seco-Carboloy technicians then make recommendations drawing on the company's latest generation of grades and cutting tools, including products engineered for challenging applications such as high speed machining and dry machining.

Seco-Carboloy in partnership with SupplyPro Inc., a market leader in "Point-of-Use" dispensing systems, have combined the PCA and the latest tooling technology with unique "Point-of-Use" systems that automate the secure storage, dispensing and inventory management of cutting tools. Included are SupplyBay(TM), SmartDrawer(TM) and SupplyPort(TM).

The SmartDrawer incorporates the Seco exclusive SmartDrawer Box Module(TM), which has been specifically designed for the efficient storage and dispensing of flat packs of cutting tool inserts and other tooling package shapes. The SDBM provides absolute security, access control and accountability, and incorporates ergonomic features that speed and simplify tool location and dispensing.

The Total Procurement Solution is completed through Seco-Carboloy's SupplyPort(TM) web portal, a secure, individualized program that enables Seco-Carboloy and its authorized distributors to provide lean and intelligent solutions to track, control and manage inventories and to provide accurate, timely information that enables data-driven decision making.

Users of SupplyPro systems have consistently achieved usage reductions of between 10 and 50 percent of their pre-implementation costs. In addition, inventory levels can be reduced by as much as 50 percent or more, and inventory turns can be increased to 6 or more turns per year from an industry average of 3-4 turns per year.

According to Seco-Carboloy executives, the SecoPoint program is available to users of cutting tools who are committed to partnering with the company in implementing PCA solutions.
