Latest Rockwell Automation ProcessLogix(TM) Distributed Process Control System Provides Greater Flexibility with DeviceNet(TM) Connectivity and OPC Alarm Handling

New DeviceNet(TM) interface provides access to a broad range of open automation devices for both monitoring and distributed control

MILWAUKEE, Oct. 10, 2002 -Rockwell Automation has released the latest version of its Allen-Bradley® ProcessLogix(TM) distributed process control system (DCS). ProcessLogix Release 500 now includes DeviceNet(TM) network access, expanding its plant network options and providing easy connectivity to a broader range of automation devices.

"Manufacturers are increasingly expecting their control systems to provide the flexibility to connect to an array of industrial networks," said Chuck Hoover, ProcessLogix product manager, Rockwell Automation. "In addition to EtherNet/IP(TM), ControlNet(TM) and FOUNDATION Fieldbus devices, ProcessLogix Release 500 now supports DeviceNet networks allowing users to easily connect a wide range of existing ODVA compliant plant floor devices into their system."

By adding DeviceNet to its existing capabilities, ProcessLogix Release 500 supports Rockwell Automation's NetLinx(TM) open network architecture, which provides a range of networking features shared across EtherNet/IP, ControlNet and DeviceNet. NetLinx provides seamless routing from one network to another without additional programming as in other archaic network designs. This makes building and installing multi-network systems easier, as well as simplifies configuration and data collection.

The ProcessLogix Release 500 server is also now OPC 1.0 Alarm and Event compliant, allowing OPC alarm and event clients to access data originating from ProcessLogix. This enables users to easily integrate plant floor data with higher-level manufacturing applications via the open OPC protocol.
