Probes measure thread pitch diameter.

Press Release Summary:

GMD Thread Probes, manufactured to 50% of thread pitch, are positioned in thread profile to measure thread groove diameter according to ANSI/ASME B1.7M. Using variable pitch, probes enable continuous variable setting of basic pitch allowing user to measure external or internal simple thread pitch diameter.

The GMD THREAD PROBE Measuring Principle

Using variable pitch, rotating GMD Thread Probes that enable continuous variable setting of the basic pitch, you can Directly measure external or internal simple thread pitch diameter.
To measure a particular thread size, you don't need to change elements or grab another gage from that bulky inventory; instead, simply dial in the pitch of the thread you wish to measure.

GMD Thread Probes, precisely manufactured to 50% of the thread pitch, are positioned in the thread profile to measure thread groove diameter according to ANSI/ASME B1.7M. Whereas, the diameter of an imaginary cylinder, the surface of which would
pass through the thread profile at such points as to make the width of the thread groove equal to 1/2 of the basic pitch. In this respect, the distance between the to GMD Thread Probes is equal to simple pitch diameter.
