Agilent Technologies Speeds Design of New High-Speed Digital Products with Industry-First 7 GHz Differential SMA Probe Head

SMA Probe Head and New Oscilloscope Test Capabilities Enable Engineers to Quickly Validate and Ensure Compliance to Serial Bus Standards

PALO ALTO, Calif., May 5, 2003 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today introduced the industry's first 7 GHz differential SMA probe head. The new Agilent InfiniiMax active probe head is being introduced with three new serial bus validation and compliance testing capabilities for the Agilent Infiniium oscilloscope. Combined, the new tools enhance development of high-speed digital designs by enabling R&D engineers in the computer, communications and semiconductor industries to validate and ensure compliance to serial bus standards quickly, thereby speeding time to market for new high-speed digital products.

"We are aggressively pursuing validation and compliance solutions for our customers," said Ron Nersesian, general manager and vice president of Agilent's Design Validation Division. "Agilent's award-winning InfiniiMax probing solutions coupled with the 6 GHz Infiniium real-time oscilloscope now offer leading-edge developers an exceptional measurement platform for physical layer testing of serial buses to help in the transition from parallel to fast differential serial bus architectures."

The Agilent E2695A Differential SMA probe head is an inexpensive accessory that plugs into the Agilent InfiniiMax 1130 series of probe amplifiers. Agilent is the first to offer 7 GHz differential probe capabilities that provide differential SMA connections using a single scope channel. Prior to this introduction, two scope channels were required to display a single differential signal. Using the differential SMA probe head, the Agilent 54850 Infiniium oscilloscope series can now measure and display four differential signals simultaneously, providing greater insight into how the serial bus design is operating.

The Agilent E2688A Serial Data Analysis/Mask Testing with Clock Recovery package provides engineers with a fast and easy way to validate new serial bus designs during development. The E2688A, when used with the Agilent 54850 Infiniium real-time oscilloscope series, performs mask testing and characterizes serial data streams that employ embedded clocks. The E2688A enables engineers to verify compliance to computer, communication and data communications standards such as PCI Express, Serial ATA, Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet.

Agilent also offers compliance test software and test procedures for the Serial ATA and USB 2.0 standards. The Agilent Serial ATA Signal Quality Compliance Test automatically programs the 54855A Infiniium 6 GHz oscilloscope and the Agilent 81134A 3.35 GHz Pulse/Pattern Generator to quickly verify compliance of host bus adapters and disk drives to the Serial ATA bus standard. The Agilent E2683A USB 2.0 Compliance Test application for the 54850 Infiniium oscilloscope series features run-time MATLAB embedded in the scope for use with USB signal integrity scripts. Agilent Infiniium oscilloscopes are recommended by the USB-IF (Universal Serial Bus Implementers Forum) compliance program for compliance testing of USB 2.0 products.
