Probe enables cable-free installation on machining centers.

Press Release Summary:

Combining part set-up and measurement with tool setting and broken tool detection, Twin-Probe System uses OMI-2T optical receiver to process signals from spindle-mounted OMP40-2 inspection probe and OTS tool setting probe. Sealed to withstand harsh machine tool environments, OMP40-2 is resistant to false-triggering from shock and vibration. Fully compatible with Renishaw optical systems, it can be used with high-speed, single-or double-touch probing routines.

New Cable-Free Twin Probe System Combines Automated Part Set-Up, Measurement, Tooling Setting and Broken Tool Detection

System use singe optical receiver to enable fast system integration and cable-free installation on machining centers, especially with twin pallets and rotary tables

June 2008 - Renishaw introduces a cable-free Twin Probe System combining part set-up and measurement with tool setting and broken tool detection. The Twin-Probe System uses the same optical receiver to process signals from a spindle-mounted OMP40-2 inspection probe and new OTS tool setting probe. Optical signal transmission enables fast system integration and a cable-free machine environment. Easily installed on a wide range of machining centers. the Twin Probe System allows users to achieve greater automation of part processing and enable more productive use of operator time and skills.

The OTS tool setting probe is a robust, compact design for broken tool detection and rapid measurement of tool length and diameter. Cable-free operation eliminates restrictions on table movement. The cableless tool setter is particularly suited to machines with twin pallets or rotary tables, which historically have been proven challenging for installation of hard-wired tool setters.

The OMP40-2 is an upgrade of Renishaw's original, award-winning OMP40 touch probe. Compact design make it especially effective in bringing on-machine probing advantages to small machining centers and the growing rage of high-speed machines fitted with small HSK and other small taper spindles. User programmable parameters make the OMP40-2 simple to optimize for specific machine applications. Renishaw's unique Trigger-Logic(TM) programming method allows users to easily program probe options. This avoids the need to access internal probe components, eliminating the risk of damage from coolant or debris ingress.

Sealed to withstand harsh machine tool environments, the OMP40-2 also is highly resistant to false-triggering from shock and vibration. Fully compatible with existing and future Renishaw optical systems, it can be used with high-speed, single-touch or double-touch probing routines.

The Twin Probe System uses Renishaw's OMI-2T optical receiver, which incorporates Renishaw's new modulated optical transmission for highest level resistance to light interference. The OMI-2T activates the OMI40-2 and OTC and gives visual indication of activation.
