Compact, Lightweight Printer Mechanisms Meet Portable Design Needs

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - December 10, 2001 - Targeting the portable device market, Fujitsu Components America, Inc. today released a series of high-speed, battery-powered thermal print mechanisms that are smaller and lighter than the company's previous generation printers. The printers are suitable for mobile (POS, banking) terminals, hand held terminals and automotive (taxi receipt, digital tachometer) applications.

Featuring a low, 15.5mm profile and a compact design, the FTP-628 series printers weigh approximately 47 grams. They accommodate 58mm (2.25 inch)-wide paper, with a paper thickness ranging from 60 to 100 micrometers, and have an effective print area of 48mm.

The series is available in two models: the FTP-628MCL053, which offers an automatic paper feed, front paper insertion path and a platen-open release, and the FTP-628MCL054, which offers a manual paper feed and a bottom paper insertion path. Both models feature an enclosed gearbox and a 30-conductor flex circuit requiring only a single connector. A 4.2 to 8.5VDC battery source is needed to operate the printers.

Using the direct thermal line-dot method, the printers offer 8-dot/mm (203 dpi) resolution and have a maximum speed of 60 mm/sec (480 dot lines/sec). The operating life is 100 million pulses or 50km of paper.

Available immediately, the FTP-628MCL053 printer is priced at $28.75 and the FTP-628MCL054 printer is $27.50 in 1000-piece quantities. A parallel mini- interface board is also available for $51.25 and a serial mini-interface board is also available for $53.75.
