Fujitsu Introduces Compact All-in-One Printer Unit with USB Interface for Versatile Kiosk Applications

Sunnyvale, Calif. - April 8, 2003 - Fujitsu Components America, Inc. today released an ultra-high-speed thermal printer subassembly with a high speed serial and USB interface for high-capacity POS, ATM, receipt and ticket dispensing applications. The one-piece unit provides durability and simplifies installation of several components within an end device.

The 24V-driven, FTP-639USL001/002 subassembly consists of a 3-inch thermal printer that can be partially tilted, a cutter that performs full or partial cuts, an integrated paper feed and paper guide section, and a miniature high-speed serial or USB control board. It also features a paper presenter and a paper collector. The entire subassembly measures a compact 136.6mm (W) x 162.5mm (D) x 107mm (H), and weighs 1.5 kilograms.

The printer mechanism has an optimum output speed of 200mm/second with 8 dots/mm resolution, but can also operate at a medium (80mm/sec) or lower (40mm/sec) speed to reduce power consumption. It has an operating life of 100 million pulses or 500,000 cuts.

The unit's die-cast frame not only provides mounting stability, but also electrostatic protection and heat retention or dissipation, depending on the application. This allows the printer to operate reliably in temperature-varying environments.

To minimize paper changes, the printer accommodates 5-inch diameter paper rolls, or up to a 10-inch roll when fitted with an extender. Fujitsu's easy-load feed mechanism, which releases the platen assembly instead of the thermal head for full access to the paper route, allows drop-in paper replacement.

Available immediately, the FTP-639USL001/002 series is priced at $475/$490 in 500-piece quantities.
